CASTELLO DI AMA L'APPARITA 1996
L’Apparita has enjoyed cult status right from its first vintage, 1985. Lying at the top of the Bellavista vineyard, at an elevation of 490 metres, is the collection of small parcels that make up the L’Apparita vineyard, a total of 3.84 hectares. It was planted to Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca in 1975, but grafted over to clone 342 of Merlot between 1982 and 1985. Its open lyre training system and clay-rich soil make this small cru a true jewel in the international wine world.
Growing season weather conditions
Average seasonal temperatures in the spring slightly advanced the onset of vine growth. June brought alternating stretches of fine weather with high temperatures and of rainfall and lower temperatures, while July and August saw almost no rain at all, so the early-ripening varieties were harvested under perfect conditions. Then the weather worsened, and the decision was made to hold off further harvesting for better weather, which arrived in the beginning of October, and the traditional varieties were brought in perfect ripeness. The fortunate choice was rewarded with a truly great vintage for Castello di Ama wines.
Vinificazione e affinamento
Le uve selezionate per q.li 180 sono state raccolte il 22 Settembre. Dopo esser state pigiate e diraspate il mosto è passato in vasca. La fermentazione si è sviluppata ad una temperatura intorno ai 32°. I rimontaggi si sono succeduti intensamente per tutta la fermentazione e la macerazione si è protratta per 27 giorni. Dopo la svinatura di Hl. 115 si è proceduto ad effettuare la fermentazione malolattica interamente in barriques. Terminata la fermentazione malolattica il vino è stato assemblato durante un travaso per ritornare in legno. L’affinamento in barriques di rovere di Allier per il 70% nuove si è protratto per circa 14 mesi. L’imbottigliamento è stato effettuato ad Aprile 1996 ottenendo 13.030 bordolesi e 750 magnum.
Tasting Notes
Peppery balsam and pungent wild herbs on the nose, partnered with rosemary and eucalyptus. The palate displays finesse and impressive balance, while the tannins are velvet smooth and well tucked in.
