L’Apparita has enjoyed cult status right from its first vintage, 1985. Lying at the top of the Bellavista vineyard, at an elevation of 490 metres, is the collection of small parcels that make up the L’Apparita vineyard, a total of 3.84 hectares. It was planted to Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca in 1975, but grafted over to clone 342 of Merlot between 1982 and 1985. Its open lyre training system and clay-rich soil make this small cru a true jewel in the international wine world.

Growing season weather conditions
Normal rains and cold marked the beginning of the year, then spring alternated mild days with wintery periods, with the result that the vines wakened late. June’s temperatures repeated those of late spring, but the foliage appeared normal, although flowering and fruitset were slightly behind normal. July and August passed normally, and harvest took place generally within the norm. Weather conditions through the season were normal, and crop levels returned to acceptable levels after three years.

Vinificazione e affinamento
Le uve selezionate per 90 q.li sono state raccolte il 15 settembre. La fermentazione si è sviluppata in maniera regolare ad una temperatura intorno ai 32°-33°C. I rimontaggi si sono succeduti delicatamente per tutta la fermentazione. La macerazione è stata allungata fino a 25 giorni. Dopo la svinatura di 60 hl si è proceduto ad effettuare la fermentazione malolattica interamente in barriques di rovere di Allier il 50% delle quali nuove. Ultimata la malolattica, il vino è stato travasato ed assemblato, dopodiché è ritornato nelle barriques. Nel mese di Luglio 2005 il vino è passato in bottiglia ottenendo 5.190 bordolesi e 600 magnum.

Tasting Notes
Ruby red with purple highlights. Well-ripened wide red berry open, yielding to peppery balsam and pungent spice. There is abundant power in the mouth, but in the context of fine balance and supple tannins. Finishes very long.
