Marka: Donnafugata
ROSA is the rosé wine that stands out for its elegant fragrance and minerality; born from the partnership between Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata, it is the perfect ambassador of two excellences of Made in Italy, united by unconditional love for Sicily, passion for work and attention to detail.
Appellation: Sicilia DOC Rosato.
Grapes: ROSA is the result of an original blend of two black grape varieties, among the most representative of Sicilian viticulture, Nerello Mascalese and Nocera.
Nerello Mascalese, cultivated in volcanic soils, is capable of expressing minerals and a refined floral component, and it is very suited for the production of rose wines.
Nocera is an ancient variety, almost forgotten, with a prestigious past. After years of experiments Donnafugata has planted it in its vineyards; here Nocera reaches an ideal sugar maturation with a high level of acidity, and gives life to a wine having a captivating fruity bouquet.
Vintage and harvesting: in Donnafugata's estate in Contessa Entellina, in the heart of western Sicily, vintage 2020 has been characterized by a regular climatic trend; as opposed to the average of the last years, production has been slightly lower and harvesting took place 5-10 days earlier; thanks to the accurate agronomic management, Nocera has perfectly reached maturation and has been harvested on August 22.
Climatic conditions were regular also in the Etna vineyards which are located between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia at 700-750 meters above sea level; excellent quality of Nerello Mascalese grapes were harvested between October 1st and 9th.
Vinification and aging: upon their arrival in the winery, the bunches were released on a vibrating table for manual sorting; only perfectly intact grapes were destemmed and gently crushed; the cold maceration of the grapes in the must lasted 6-12 hours and allowed the best extraction of aromatic precursors as well as the color that distinguishes this rosé. After the fermentation at controlled temperature, the final blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nocera was made; it was then aged for 2 months in tanks and at least 3 months in bottle before release.
Analytical data: alcohol 12,38% vol. - total acidity 6,2 g/l. - pH 3,26.
Tasting notes: bright pale pink in color, it presents a broad bouquet of jasmine and rose petals, with delicate fruity notes of currant and bergamot.
fruity notes of currant and bergamot. With a very pleasant fragrance and minerality, it stands out for its finesse and persistence.
Food & Wine: Perfect for aperitifs, raw fish, vegetarian dishes and delicate meats. Excellent at 10-12° C.
Dialogue with creativity: the production of a rosé wine was strongly desired by Dolce&Gabbana, fascinated by this unmistakable color, and the name ROSA was chosen precisely to emphasize its unique personality. And just as Donnafugata has created an unprecedented blend of two Sicilian grape varieties, so the creativity of Dolce&Gabbana has taken up the challenge of narrating this prestigious wine, taking care of its coordinated image: the immediately recognizable graphics of the materials are inspired by the iconic Sicilian cart that represents the craftsmanship, culture and tradition of the island throughout the world.
